The ride from The Ice Fields to Hinton was about 176 miles. We encountered a few critters, more great scenery and very steep grades. The Canadians make them with a road sign but, are reluctant to give you the actual grade. In 60,000 miles of towing on this truck I have never had to use the brakes coming down a long grade due to it’s compression brake and we have been down long 8% grades. That is up until today…
We had a meeting to discuss the next day’s travel, being held outside it was sweatshirt and jacket time. Anne-Marie is out navigator, she takes the notes and comments on how lost we are at times.
On our ‘Day Off’, we took a side trip to Cadomin, which is a small town adjacent to a huge coal mine about 35 miles from our base camp.
We stopped in ‘The Hole in the Wall’ for lunch. This establishment serves as the Post Office, General Store and luncheonette {Rightfully famous for great hamburgers}.
You know your in a small community when the sign announcing ‘Steak Night’ doesn’t give a location. It’s at ‘The Lodge’, everyone knows where that is!
Our Friend’s Jeff & Ethel are shown above at the ‘Hole in the Wall’ with us. We rode with them in their truck as we left our mounted on our truck due to the landing gear issue. Our next stop is Dawson’s Creek, BC. There I hope to cobble up field repair for this P.I.A. problem.
Anne-Marie went to the local Beaver Boardwalk to find these fellows swimming around during the evening.
Friday ended with a pot luck dinner, lots of good food here! The 250 mile road trip to Dawson’s Creek was overcast, turned into rascally rain. Even the critter stayed in bed!
