Ice Field, Alberta 2013 Brrrrr!

We finally left Tunnel Mountain Campground at 9:30 after coupling the camper to the trailer.  I’m very appreciative for Stu’s help, he is a quiet voice in a chaotic moment when about 5 well meant  fellows wanted to help.  I’ve performed this task many times as our Prowler had a design failure in this area.

DSCN2923Costs in Canada seem to be about 20% more than in the states.  Items requiring local labor {Think dining out} are +50%.  A simple Chinese take-out was $19!  The 2 currencies USD/CAD are at pare right now so my limited quick calculating ability is not taxed there.

$127.OO for 74.4 L (19 Gallons) of fuel works out to $6.68/gallon…

This fuel purchase we had to make was just plain abusive $.50 per Liter more than we paid in Calgary cannot be justified.  We have been forewarned that it will be higher in BC.

DSCN2912The scenery on this 150 mile ride was fantastic.  There were several of these overpasses which reduce to carnage to the wildlife.

It appeared there were no injuries in this wrecked motorhome we came upoDSCN2909n.

I’m calling the photo’s below ‘Though the windshield’.  In most of them you can see a small part of the front of our truck.

The Ice Field

Our group dry camped rather unceremoniously in the parking lot for this major attraction.   The big attraction was taking a ride in one of the $1.2 million dollar DSCN2941Ice Buggies.  During the trip to the glacier they traverse an 18% grade, said to be the steepest such grade traveled by commercial vehicles.

The spot we are standing on is about 2 miles from our camping area.  The ice is 1000’ this here and yes, it’s COLD.

We just arrived at KOA campground with i-net and phone.  My new landing gear is $280, not too bad.  UPS to move it from Indiana to Alaska in 5 days? $285!

Must be their pension costs Smile
