Dawson City Tour & Pot Luck 2013

We were allowed to sleep in this morning, at 9:15 we had to muster for a tour of the town.  Lots of walking on the dirt streets and DSCN3248boardwalks (springtime brings 6’ deep mud!).  Our 1st stop bought us riverside where we viewed the home site of an eclectic fellow who lives on the other side of the river in a cave.  His name is Bob and he does very well.  Our guide pointed out that this town seems to be a drawing point for eclectic's, sort of like Provincetown, MA.  We would see more and try not to stare.

Six inches of mud &filth in the streets lead to several disease and plague like epidemics.  At the mortuary we found that the proprietor was known to measure and pre-dig graves in the fall so as to be able to better serve his clients in the -50° winters.

Several Hotels have been restored to their former Grandeur.

You must remember that this town was the century of gold trafficking for about 150 years, fortunes were made and lost here.DSCN3249DSCN3254DSCN3256DSCN3258

The Photo on the Left is the last operating Whorehouse, closed in 1955.  The builing on the right may have been a bordello, serving the wealthier clientele.  These services were encouraged by the locals as at one time the ratio was 1 Gal to 533 Fellows.

Walking back to camp, I could not help but notice this camper, waiting to go home. The home of a Steeler’s Fan or this summerplace built in 1902.

If you feed them, they will come!  Our ladies prepared ‘Heavy Snacks’ for our social hour, that ran on for 2 hours.
