Ogden Utah, Air Force, Genealogy and a Great Dinner 2013

On Friday we traveled from The North Rim of The Grand Canyon to Ogden, UT.  About 35 Miles North of Salt Lake City, this area has a lot to offer.  It was quite a treat to arrive at our Passports America Campground and have full hookups for the 1st time in a month.   We luxuriated in long hot showers and Anne-Marie grazed in 2 Wal-Mart's.   We decided to stay and extra day and do some serious sightseeing.

The Hill Aerospace Museum was created to honor all of our flying heroes from our 100 years as the peace keeper of the world. What we figured to be a 1 hour stop turned in a whole morning.

We next went into Salt Lake City to visit the Mormon Historical Museum which was interesting and well done a great expense I’m sure.  Notice in the photos below that the architecture and landscaping in this facility indicates a permanence of their mission.

The Mormon Genealogy Center was awesome to say the least, we helped them close the doors after 3 hours of searching their archives.  This activity has meaning to them as they feel they can retrieve their deceased relatives and baptize them during their ceremonies.  They further believe that everyone should know their roots so as to have  a clear view of their DSCN2403past.   There is no cost or obligation to use their archives, using the link above you can go onto their DSCN2404site and retrieve you heritage.

Caution: This action may be habit forming.

Our days activities left us with large appetites as we had forgotten lunch.  Up popped Serendipity!

We were directed to The Prairie Schooner Steakhouse & Restaurant in Ugden, UT.  We were greeted with a restaurant that had the theme of a wagon train circled to have a meal after a long day on the trail.  We were seated in our own private wagon which over looked the main interior which was a display of mounted animals indigenous to the area.

I jumped right onto the special of the day which was a ‘Queen’s Cut’ of Prime Rib which was served very rare as ordered.  The baked potato and large salad complimented this meal.  Cost? $12.95!  Anne-Marie enjoyed her salad which was topped with various cold seafood.  Sorry, the picture I took of the interior does not do justice.  Check their website for more information.

Tomorrow we have an aggressive road day of 300 miles over scenic but primarily secondary roads.  We hope to meet up with Charlie & Dawn Boles.  Charlie is the President of The Mexican Connection, Anne-Marie is the 1st Vice President.
