Hitch Fever set in on Tuesday. We were briefed that crossing the river on Wednesday could be a 5 hours affair at The Ferry only takes on camper and a few cars per 40 minute circuit. It was mentioned that we had the option to cross in the evening and boondock for the night, we couldn’t move fast enough. We crossed the river last evening and stayed on the west bank at the ferry slip. I was concerned that my lower than average {stuck} landing gear would cause of grief, it cleared by 3”. The river at this point is about the size of the Connecticut River, it is much swifter!
Once ensconced on the isolated west bank, we were able to relax and watch the river’s traffic (there was non except driftwood and the occasional submarine)
This common roadside flower is called the Fireweed. There have been patches of them for the last 500 miles. It’s novelty is in the fact that the flowers start to bloom on the bottom. The locals say that when they reach the top, it’s time to head to Arizona!
Tomorrow we will travel back into the U.S.A. We will be entering at Chicken Alaska, a year round population of about 20. This town is the 1st location after crossing the most northern border that the U.S.A. has. We are prepared to travel the 125 miles of gravel and dirt road as best we can. In late September we will be crossing Canada again we we return to Washington State.
Decent WiFi here, no phone!
