Trip Notes, Going to The Malicon 2013

DSCN1790

We traveled to San Felipe on a beautiful, full sun Monday morning.  We had 6 groups of 6 campers each.  We were in the last group and became the tailgunner in that group due to radio issues.  No big deal, hoping we didn’t have issues as we were the last in line!  This photo shows our group waiting to leave at appointed time.  We send 6 campers each 15 minutes to avoid overwhelming various check points on other borders.  The other half is that if they stop one of us, all 6 pull over.  This would jam up a small town, they don’t want that!  The picture below shows us about 100km south of the border at a ‘potty break’.  Me?  I had to pee…

The road was very good when we were not in a city.  The city roads remind me of The Cross Bronx Express Way.  Only not as good!DSCN1796  No photos of the security checks for obvious reasons.  The young men manning them were very curious as they did ‘walk through’ of our rigs.  We arrived at Pete’s Camp at about 2:30 where we were happy to park and set-up.

DSCN1803One of our group attempted driving on sand with his 40,000 pound rig with  bad results.  It buried itself to the frame.  All the King’s men and one of his Diesel Pick-ups shoveled and pushed & cussed to get him out.  Guess who was pleased to buy the beer that evening?  The holes left behind were big DSCN1805enough to have a pig roast.

Soon, we retired to Pete’s Restaurant where the food was great along with the margaritas. As the evening got later the depth of the hole of deeper and deeper, the roads got bumpier and the music played louder.  This is the start on a good week we hope.

Through the miracle of our DISH TV, we are able to see the news feeds from New York or San Francisco.  It appears that a bounty of snow is going into the North East this weekend, take care all and don’t do anything risky.  It’s going down into the 70’s here, I will wear a shirt in the evening hours.
