Good Sam in Louisville, KY

GSpic.jpgWe’ve been GOOD SAM members for 25+ years. Good Sam’s mission was to be a volunteer operated group of campers that networked with various local groups for the welfare of all. During the last 20 years they have partnered with several other RV orientated companies with mixed results. Marketing Insurance, RV’s, Supplies and campsites seems to have taken the company into a new direction. Quite frankly, we pay our dues and use very few of their services. This year we will make a few events, participate as possible and judge our future actions on the results.

The Rally at Louisville Kentucky is a big annual event. In fact it is one of 3 events this year, Phoenix in the spring and Daytona in the late fall. These are not cheap events, they do have expensive venues and stellar entertainment.

We arrived at the Kentucky Fairground in Louisville 2 days early, a bonus of being retired.  We were greeted by well organized parking committee member who located us in a site with electricity.  He noted that we could also hook-up to water as it was close to this site also.  There were a total of 1800 rigs present, they tend to park in groups and socialize as such.  You have to be just a bit forward, bring a lawn chair over and plop yourself down.  I’ve never felt rejection, some groups don’t meet my agenda so I don’t return.

GS 2012 (2)My camera does not do justice to the great venue they used for entertainment, very professional lighting and sound systems.  Thursday  was The Gattlin Brothers, very nice.  On Friday 84 year old Bert Batrack  stood the crowd up with a 90 minute show of all his great music.  His band was outstanding!  Cheryle Crow’'s music just hurt my ears on Saturday, lots of old folks went home early.  There was an Elvis in the building as an event closer on Sunday.  3 out of 4 was my score, Pretty happy with that.

Did I mention that there were vendors selling stuff?

Did I mention that some of the ‘stuff’ was shoes?

Lots to see and do in the Louisville area.  We visited several Bourbon Distilleries on ‘The Bourbon Trail.

Note my 5th wheel parallel parked on the Main Street of Midland, KY.  The whole town took notice during my fancy ‘U’ Turn!

Oh yea, there was food.

Hot Brown**, defines Southern Cooking.  This is followed by hot blackberry cobbler.  Did you want yours to go?

** Hot Brown:  Pictured is 1/2 of an order.  Croissant, Turkey, Bacon, slice of tomato, white sauce.  Note that Anne-Marie has her eyes closed, this keeps the calories away!
